The Flat Fire left lasting impacts on private lands across Deschutes County, and the Deschutes Soil and Water Conservation District (DSWCD) is here to help. We’re launching a pilot cost-share program to support landowners with critical post-fire recovery work.

Through this program, eligible landowners may receive assistance covering up to 75% of treatment costs or $150 per acre (whichever is less).

Funding can help with:

  • Herbicide treatment on dozer lines and other fire-affected areas

  • Seeding of native bunch grasses to stabilize soils

  • Erosion control measures to protect property and water quality

Because the ecological window for treatment is short, applications will close on October 12, 2025. Priority will be given to shovel-ready projects and groups of neighbors working together on contiguous properties.

This is DSWCD’s first direct cost-share program for private landowners, and while we hope to assist as many as possible, capacity will depend on weather, staff availability, and the number of applicants.
