The Deschutes SWCD is accepting applications for funding assistance to manage excessive juniper on private lands within Deschutes County. Funding is provided through a state legislative grant supporting large-scale juniper reduction projects across Central and Eastern Oregon.
Projects will be ranked based on hydrologic and ecological benefit. DSWCD staff will conduct a field visit to evaluate each proposed project area before selection.
DSWCD will reimburse the landowner for treatment at the following rates/acre.
| Mechanical Control, woody veg. Light density | $196/Acre |
| Mechanical Control, woody veg. Medium density | $317/Acre |
| Mechanical Control, woody veg. Heavy density | $395/Acre |
Eligibility will be based on:
- Property located within Deschutes County
- Projects must total at least 100 acres, either:
- One individual property of 100 acres or more, or
- A group of neighboring landowners whose combined properties total 100+ acres and form a contiguous treatment area
- Potential for measurable ecological benefits (e.g., improved water infiltration, habitat restoration)
- Retention of old-growth juniper in treatment areas
- Shovel-ready projects capable of completion within the grant timeline
- Willingness to collaborate on post-treatment monitoring and maintenance
Project Process:
- Submit an application
- DSWCD staff will contact applicants to schedule a site visit.
- Approved projects will include a management plan outlining treatment methods, timelines, and reporting requirements.
- Payment will be made upon project completion and approval by DSWCD staff.
